Worms by Aniqah Biswas
Wake up
It’s not too late
The sun’s not overhead
The flowers have bloomed
And yet, you’re somehow still in bed
Is your head a mess?
Are your hands numb and blue?
Not so green, but close enough to the hue
Come on and pluck out the weed
Don’t mistake need for greed
See the problem’s just ahead
In the grass, needs amend
So what if your muscles are wires frayed?
You still have bones that have some give
Tools are pointless, your nails have beds
Can’t let them sleep while you’re awake
You’ll writhe in agony when the sun’s finally overhead
Why choose to fight against those who’ll keep you hydrated?
It’s merely a matter of persevering oneself
Odd that you don’t seem so keen
Why do you now insist on speech?
Why do the worms now seem so bleak?
You’ve got everything that you need
Don’t be oblique, submission’s for the weak
Dirt seems cleaner this time of year
Immerse yourself, no need to fear
Make some room, I thought I was being clear?
Don’t invite your friends, just be a dear
You secrete the very thing you oppose of
Dripping from your skin a disgusting calamity
Say, you’re sure the troubles won’t reach you
My goodness, aren’t you the confident type?
Why do you now insist on speech?
I thought the silence was what you preached?
Buried and brash, no fear nor meek
Don’t be oblique, you reek of false creed
Your skin seems smoother this time of year
I guess the rain has drenched you fair
No need for such tone, no need to sneer
No need for hate, no need for care
You shout out from your rocky plains
Claim that our words have caused you great pains
Worming your way out of hypocrisy
With the fellow cruel that you seek to please
