My Crowd of Shadows by Spencer Gallup

I keep trying to stay clear from the crowd of shadows

the sight of this crowd is… unnerving

all almost look human

but there are no faces

all are as black as night

yet, I feel that they are all looking… for me.

The silence of their movement also unnerving

the way they move is too dexterous to be human

I try to hide behind a tree within the woods

hoping it’s size and the darkness of night would help hide me

but then one of the shadows would wave to the others

letting the rest know of my location

leaving me with no choice but to run.

The shadows call my name repeatedly

they tell me to come to them

they call my name louder and they get faster

while I keep slowing down

for my shadows are toxic to me

I want to be free from them

but they want me under their control for their own ends.

The shadows keep growing in numbers

for the crowd has now grown to an army of shadows

and they all know where I am

I am trapped with an army of shadows.
